He has become the world’s most sought-after aluminum expert for legal disputes, arbitration cases, and government hearings. Mr. Vazquez has been advisor to the US Senate (Carl Levin and John McCain), US Department of Justice, US Department of Commerce, US International Trade Commission and the Canadian Trade Tribunal on matters related to the aluminum industry. Started in 1969 as an aluminum scrap buyer and trader for US Reduction. In 1975, joined Salomon Brothers/Philipp Brothers as a Senior Vice President of Trading in all nonferrous metals. In 1993, joined a NY/Russian based trading company, as Senior Vice President of Aluminum Trading. In 1996, became Vice President of Alcoa Materials Management (metal purchasing and trading). In 2013, joined HARBOR as Senior Consultant.
Started in 1965 in the metals business. In 1980, became VP Materials Management at Arco Aluminum. In 1994, became President of Materials Management at Alumax Aluminum. In 1998, became Alcoa’s President of Metal Purchasing & Trading. In 2002, started his own price risk management consulting business. In 2013, joined HARBOR as Senior Consultant.
Tom began his career as a process engineer in aluminum smelting. He later moved into metallurgical support of aluminum casthouse products, including process management of high purity and super high purity operations at Alcoa. Later, Tom became the Marketing Manager for Alcoa’s defense business unit. He spent his remaining years as Strategic Marketing Director of Alcoa Materials Management in Knoxville, TN. He also served on the Aluminum Association’s statistics committee and as board member of the Aluminum Extruders Council. Joined HARBOR in March 2017.
